The AP® Japanese Language and Culture Summer Course is designed for both new and experienced teachers to develop a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum framework, which forms the foundation of the AP® course and exam. Participants will engage in hands-on learning guided by a College Board–endorsed consultant, using official materials to design their syllabus, unit lesson plans, and strategies for feedback that help students build proficiency and confidence for the AP® Exam.

- AP® course goals, objectives, content, resources, and materials
- The AP® Examination: development and scoring process
- Syllabi, lesson planning, and assignments
- AP® Course Audit information
- Strategies to prepare students from beginner to AP® proficiency
Participants will learn to:
- Apply the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages to thematic curriculum design
- Develop culturally relevant instruction that deepens students’ understanding of Japanese products, practices, and perspectives
- Use authentic materials to strengthen language proficiency and cultural awareness
- Integrate technology tools to support engagement, formative assessment, and feedback
- Incorporate 21st-century skills into the modes of communication
- Build a professional learning network to share resources and reflect on best practices
